The first step is to download R. Go to the CRAN website and choose your operating system. I have a Mac, so I click on Download R for (Mac) OS X:
Then choose the .pkg file that is right for your computer. Since I have the most updated version of OS X, I click on top link (R-3.2.1.pkg).
Once this has downloaded, open the installer to install R. It will ask for the administrative password to your computer. Go ahead and install it in its default location.
The next step is to download RStudio. Again, since I have a Mac, I’ll scroll down and choose the Mac OS X option. Once this has downloaded, open it up to run through the installataion process. Again, the default location works fine.
